I think if I ever again go to an MLB game (which would involve travel for me no matter which team I was watching, so I’d have to stay in a hotel), I’ll make sure to stay far away from the team hotel. Why? Because of the discomfort involved with seeing security goons everywhere, keeping the fans from interacting with or heck, even taking pictures of the players (your recent post about that incident had my blood pressure through the roof). Just plain ridiculous, in my opinion, and it really ticks me off. I can see not being allowed on the team floor, obviously, but when they’re out in public? C’mon…what’s the point in us lesser mortals even being allowed to set foot in the hotel at all if we can barely get close enough to look at them, let alone speak with them?

That said (thanks for letting me vent)…I really wish you’d spill the dirt rather than teasing the reader. Sounds like you saw SOMETHING “personal” that night. Off-field stories are sadly hard to come by, at least in reliable corners of the blogosphere…

Brenken, if you think I was sashaying you had more to drink than I did. (I’ve never sashayed in my life) :) I promise you, we spent more time with Georgey the bartender than we did looking at Georgie the catcher.

I’m sure some of the players hate the gawking part of being out after the game but I’m pretty sure some of them enjoy that part of being famous and use it to their advantage.

Come on Cyn, sack up! You live, eat, drink and breathe Red Sox baseball. If you don’t “gawk”, who will? If all the fans had that attitude, the players might develop inferiority complexes without the adulation. They might feel lonely and saddened, left to wonder what’s wrong with them. Sometimes you just have to sacrifice for the good of the team.

Actually, that’s exactly what I mean. :)

It was a ton of fun and, like I said, they go there knowing folks are going to be gawking, but it’s just not me. I don’t regret one moment of Saturday night, mind you, but I don’t think I’d be comfortable putting myself in the same position again.
